The Vocal Audition--WEDNESDAY
Everyone will need to sing...alone...for the audition. It is a musical after all! This does not need to be as scary as it may sound.
On the main audition page are sheet music and recorded excerpts of some of the songs from the show. There is also a list of songs and who sings them (or which voice part is best suited for a particular song.)
Listen to the songs first. Find one that a) you like b) fits your voice and c) you feel comfortable singing. Print out the sheet music and learn the words and rhythms. Then work on the notes. Sing along with the recording, or find someone to play on the piano or play it yourself if you know how. Think about phrasing, breath support and tone.
As you practice the songs, think about the text (words) you're singing. Show the emotion on your face. You aren't just singing the song, you're performing it. Just like with the dance , we want to see “good face” while you're singing. We also want to hear good notes!
You will most likely not need to sing the entire song. We'll let you know which part of the song to perform.
While you're waiting to sing and after you've finished, be an attentive and supportive audience member. A supportive audience will make your audition easier, so be supportive of your classmates while they're singing.
